After much deliberation and at least two rounds of judging (after the initial voting), a winner has been selected!

Because of the nature of the selection and of the mod in general, Veo and I also came up with some interesting ideas for some of the other entries later on. We also couldn’t pick just one entry as a winner.

In the end, CyanideX’s 6th and 7th entries have been selected as a form of two part desk. You can see them here and here. The top section will be craftable separately from the base and existing desks will be able to change to the new base without issue. I’ll be making minor changes to the lamp, though.
The desk won’t be included in the 1.6.4 update, but it’s one of my top priorities after that. 🙂

Some of the other desk entries may appear later on in Mystcraft. 😉 Keep a look out!

The current build of Mystcraft does not work for 1.6.4. This is because vanilla structure generation changed, forcing many mods to update.

I have not yet had the chance to actually do anything with Mystcraft since before 1.6.4 came out, so there is not yet an update to it.

I hope to get he opportunity in the very near future. I will release an update for 1.6.4 in order for people to transition maps properly.

I’ve heard that voting was apparently difficult, and the general count of votes would evidence this. I’m of course interested in feedback on the contest itself, particularly suggestions on how to better run one in the future.
One thing I noted is that the contest ran for too long. It might have helped if I’d talked about it more and kept it more current, but I’ve not been around lately. That was mostly unfortunate timing, but that’s life.

At any rate, I’m counting votes and going through the entries. I can’t give a date for when I’ll have the final results (because the last thing I need is another deadline), but I’ve got the votes recorded and I know which entries are in the running. Veo and I need to sit down together (metaphorically) and go over the results, still.

It’s finally here! I’m announcing the launch of the Mystcraft Writing Desk Contest!

Ever since it’s original creation the Mystcraft Writing Desk has been using placeholder blocks and borrowing the textures from the workbench and bookshelves. Now it’s finally time to upgrade it to something you don’t feel like hiding in the back of your base under everything.

Everyone will be able to vote for their preferred desk model, and anyone can make as many submissions as they like.

The contest rules are over on the Mystcraft Forums. Head over there for more information and to see what submissions have already been made. Keep an eye out for new submissions as well!

So, I’ve apparently been linking the outdated version of Direwolf20’s Mystcraft spotlight. Whoops. 😛
While the more current one shows up on the right hand side of the screen, not everyone notices it (or can see that).

So here’s the most current tutorial from Direwolf20 explaining how to use Mystcraft features and mechanics. Between this and the writing tutorial (which I will link here again just for giggles) I think that should cover all you need to know to start Mystcraft. If you really want to know how stuff works, be sure to check out the wiki or ask on the Mystcraft forums!

OK, so I rewrote part of the grammar’s parsing again. 😛
Particularly, I did this to allow me to balance the rules differently. Now the grammar will not change colors or phases or the like that you have written, while still being able to generate its own complex values.
This build also includes a lot of work on bugfixes and other balancing, as well as some new symbols and a system for automatically adding registered fluids as symbols.

Keep in mind that you need link panels to make books! This is for both descriptive and linking books.

To recap: there is only one download (found at the bottom of this post); This file is the universal install for client and server; it no longer goes in the jar.
Mystcraft goes in the mods folder.

So I got Mystcraft updated to 1.6.1, and then they release 1.6.2. Really, Mojang? 😛
I’ll update to 1.6.2 now, and hopefully get a build to my testers before Mojang releases 1.6.3. 😉
In terms of the updates, things went quite well. The Liquids to Fluids transition was actually very smooth (fluid, one could say).
The new Fluids system opens some doors to things I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while. I’ll let you speculate to what all I can do with them. 😉
There were a few gotchas on the update, particularly with how resources are accessed now, but I got most of that sorted out. Fortunately, the only problem at this point is sounds. Hopefully I’ll get those sorted out soon. I know a number of modders were having issues in that department, and there’s not a lot of info on how it’s done now.

On a completely unrelated note, the only donations I’ve gotten recently have been so small that PayPal claimed all of them. PayPal takes 35 cents + some percentage on every transaction. Basically, if you send less than a dollar, PayPal will take most of it, and if you send less than 35 cents you’ve just sent money to PayPal. I appreciate the sentiment and the attempt, but if you are going to donate less than a dollar, just keep your money. It’s sad to tell the only donations I’ve gotten lately to not bother, but it won’t change anything on my end, apparently. No money from donations is no money from donations, doesn’t matter if it’s from no donations or if PayPal takes the few cents you send.
Hopefully I don’t sound bitter about it. 😛 Just wanted to point this out to the people sending spare change that they’d be better off not wasting it. If you want to donate a few cents I can set up optional adfly links.

At any rate, I’d better get back to work, including updating Mystcraft.
