Mystcraft 0.10.0

Finally, the release that everyone has been waiting for!

This release contains the new page system, makes pages collectable, changes writing mechanics, adds celestial mechanics, adds the modifiers system, and contains several bug fixes. Check out the change log for a more complete list.

It’s taken a long time to get this to a deliverable state, and I thank you for your patience. This development arc was very large and I eventually had to break it apart just to get this out.
From now on I will be defining my arcs better and making sure they are smaller, so you will get content updates more often. πŸ™‚

To recap: there is only one download (found at the bottom of this post); This file is the universal install for client and server; it no longer goes in the jar.
Mystcraft goes in the mods folder.

EDIT: Info from changelog:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Flags and properties on existing books have been cleared (books will work fine, but lose link properties). The properties will have to be reapplied.
Also, existing Notebooks in desks may end up in funny slots, but this shouldn’t cause major issues. Just move ’em. πŸ˜‰

  3. Now I have to decide whether to play MC with Mystcraft, or buy Riven and keep finding out about the Myst lore directly! I bought Myst from GOG thanks to this mod, so thanks for introducing me to the series.

    Incidentally, there were/are going to be other ways of getting pages, aren’t there? I dislike having to rely on villagers to supply items, as it leaves me wondering how they got said items, and why I can’t do it the same way πŸ™‚

    I’m not sure if this is implemented, but have you considered (if possible) adding Thaumcraft related symbols, like generating more than usual standard aura nodes?

    Also, I assume that symbols for ores from other mods exist/are planned?

    1. Other mod interactions largely have to be done by the other mods or as plugins. Not really feasible for me to include such things in the core of Mystcraft direct.
      You can find pages as treasure in ages or dungeons, etc.

      Glad to have introduced you to Myst! Hope you are enjoying it. I really recommend Riven. It was epic.

  4. I’m sure that this is highly unlikely, but will the symbols added by other mods in previous versions of Mystcraft have its own pages now?

    1. Of course. πŸ™‚ Though add-ons might take a little time to update. ExtraBiomes won’t need to do anything, as that’s an automatic system.

  5. Awsome Patch! One question if I may… You can get the symbols from Overworld’s different structure like dungeons etc… And also you can get symbols from the new villager’s home and from the new villager itself, from trading. But the question is: Can we somehow get symbols from the randomly generated and instable descriptive books? Like making a d-book with 16 pages or so and explore it to get the symbols of it?

    1. The old mechanic of symbols appearing in books you have traveled to is fully replaced and any automatically added symbols used to generate that world won’t appear.

  6. Is there a complete list somewhere of all the ways to get pages? Everything I’ve seen so far has been that you get them from villagers but Minecraft Trading is probably one of the worst parts of Vanilla and I’d hate to be required to make a villager breeding facility just to be able to write an age.

  7. Although I have really enjoyed MystCraft I can’t say that I am particularly happy with the new system of finding symbols especially because finding a village or dungeons can be very difficult. My question is has this always been the intended system or is it subject to change?

  8. Will there ever be a way to revert to the old mechanics? I seriously doubt this, but these new changes…being able to make a butter or diamond world? It just makes the mod extremely OPed at that point IMHO.

    I do like the idea of having to find villagers with pages, but the old mechanics would be preferable if it gets rid of the way to make worlds like the examples above.

      Why is simply disabling the Gold Ore and Diamond Ore symbols in the config file not sufficient?

      Also I wouldn’t try to make Diamond or Gold Ore terrains, I don’t think it will work as you expect. Tendrils are your best bet, but even those will be rather unstable.

    Also, I’m not sure if this is a vanilla thing or Mystcraft, but I only notice it with Mystcraft villagers. Namely they get pushed by other villagers into solid block and suffocate.This has happened to me twice already and it’s makes gatting the pages that much harder since the villagers have a very slim chance of spawning.

  13. You may have heard of this, but I have an issue with the lectern, they appear black :S
    I don’t know if it’s Optifine or just a small glich, do you know?

    1. Probably optifine. Not a Mystcraft bug in and of itself, but could be some interaction issue. The lecterns are a custom render system.

        I use OptiFine HD C3 Ultra for Minecraft 1.4.6 and 1.4.7, is it can be relevant if you want to check it out, or I will just not use them

  14. The Writing Desk Gui is malfunctioning. the part that holds the page symbols is ovelaying the part that holds the inventory and its spazzing.

  15. Awesome work, the new mechanics really working well and the bug with saving in created ages is fixed (whatever caused it, forge or mystcraft).

    I have one question, in my main age for my home base I have suddenly a purple sky. The sky doesn’t really bother me but I am a little worried the age got unstable by the changing of the symbols with the update and that would be really bad bc I have nearly all my creations there. Is there a chance a stable age is getting unstable with the update?

    Also the linking books lost their following/intra-linking ability but thats just for info, not really a problem.

    1. I mentioned that the books would lose their properties. πŸ™‚
      I’m not sure why your sky changed color, but it’s probably a minor change in how the colors are calculated.
      There is a bug that many ages are a little unstable right now. The fix is already in the upcoming bugfix release, I’m just very short on time right now.

      1. Oh my bad, I have forgotten about you mentioning of losing the properties, my bad.

        No problem, just taker your time. For the time being I will just disable instability and reactivate it after the bugfix, don’t want something bad happening to my main world, transferring everything from the overworld was a pita and I would not enjoy doing it again. πŸ˜‰

  16. You removed the link modifier recipe – now it’s creative only item. Will you apply new mechanic for giving properties to the linking books? Or I missed something in changelog and it already exists?

  17. Hey guys, i have a question: in which order do we put pages?? Cuz i found a lot of them (almost all) and i’m not able do create world with the specs’ that i want, (ex.: a flat world which isn’t)

  18. I am not sure whether or not my updated Mystcraft is working or not, as I started the world proir to the 1.10 patch. I have visited three villages so far, yet none of the villages have contained lecterns, no symbols, and none of the villagers have ever wanted to trade me symbols. They only wish to grant me bees and leather caps and other useless items. Are symbol-trading really that rare, or am I missing something? I have demolished every bookcase and block inside village libraries, but still no luck. I have also encountered three chests in total in the various villages as well, and two more chests in dungeons; whom has neither contained a single symbol as well.

    Is there some special way you have to implement the mod; Remove old version before applying the new version, etc, that you have to do in order for it to work properly, or should I just keep trying to find chests and villages, chalking it up to symbols being extraordinarily rare? All my previous Myst ages have become unstable like nothing else after the update, and because I only have a few, basic symbols from printing one book onto my notebook prior to the update, I lack the essential symbols to create a stable age. All ages have the nausea or / and hunger of various degrees, making it impossible to adventure properly in them as it is.

    just out of curiosity.
    why did you choose to use the Narayan language instead of D’ni like you had in earlier versions?

    1. I still have the D’ni numbers, but the symbols have used Narayan for quite a while. I just finally made them full poems.
      D’ni didn’t quite have the constrained flexibility of Narayan.

  20. Will the new pages be craftable in later updates? I don’t see myself seeking out villages to get them or in constant search for pages in newer chunks. I think for this reason I will remain on the old version of the mod. That and I put a lot of time into collecting the pages prior to this update.. I will admit the update looks awesome but I am not a fan of how one goes about finding pages…

  21. Any reason why Aura nodes would disappear? Logged onto SMP just after update to find a nearby node had gone, then again two days ago our silverwood tree node had gone too and new saplings won’t grow there…

  22. i am having issues with your mod. when i add it to the mod folder forge sends back an error message saying a mod is missing. do you have any suggestions?

      1. I’m having a similar problem: it’s telling me Forge is missing. Is this the same problem, and if so how did you fix it?

  23. Not sure if this has been reported but according to the compatibility page Divine RPG is compatible but even after following the instructions on changing a value in the config upon trying to reload a saved map the game freezes at building terrain.

  24. Thanks ever so much for the awesome mod! I’m a huge fan of Myst and I have to say I love the new writing mechanics. My first world generated from a blank page was a always night Hell biome, so I was running in terror and finally took refuge in a mysterious library. Pretty epic.

  25. Hi! Awesome job on the mod. I just wanted to ask whether it is possible to make it so that each mystcraft age can have its own twilight forest dimension (for servers with people living in their own mystcraft age). I know this system can be abused a lot or become OP, but having something like an on off of this feature in the config file can fix that…. So, yeah! was hoping you could add such a feature…

    1. Not possible, I’m afraid, from my end. Also not really feasible or reasonable from Twilight Forest’s end either, though it would be possible.
      I doubt it would happen for the same reasons I don’t add a Nether or End for every Age.

      1. Is it possible to add twilight forest biome pages so you can make ages with Twilight Forest features?

        1. That is an amazing idea… I love that idea more. Something like a twilight forest expansion for mystcraft (lol). Anyway, it is a great idea, I also hope to see if it is possible to add. and thank you Xcompwiz for replying.

I think (You don’t have to listen to me if you don’t really want to) you should add a Overworld book (Not a link to the Overworld, but like a notebook with all the things for the over world to be able to create new “OverWorlds”) along with a Nether book, and a End book. Just for servers that are fairly large so that a few people can live in another Overworld separate from lets say the Ops and stuff like that.

    Maybe I’m just really dumb, but I can not install this mod on minecraft. It seems to do everything as needed, but forge an error.

    If it is not difficult, you can throw a link to download the final customer with this mod? I’m just a big fan, but I have an old version.
    p.s. Sorry, it is not clear if it is written, I’m just Russian, and English teaching is bad.

    1. Not sure what link you’d want, so I can’t help you there. If you installed Forge correctly then Mystcraft should just go in the mods folder. I recommend the FTB launcher or using MultiMC. πŸ™‚

  29. I don’t know if this is an issue or user error, but I’ve gone through about 20 ages trying to get an oil age, I have single ocean biome with normal stars, moon, weather and stars, stone and oil standard terrain generation, it still made it water. Love the mod just curious is all.

    1. There are some other mods out there that conflict with Mystcraft in such a way as to prevent it from correctly accessing or saving agedata. This means you lose the ability to write ages.
      It’s also possible to have been user error. Did you include the modifiers before the terrain symbol? Do other modifiers have issues?

  30. I’ve been trying for a long time now to create a simple age that simply have oil in it. Why can’t i do it there is still not one drop of the precious liquid, snif… I tryed a lot of different biomes. I don’t understand it drives me mad :/
    Am I the only one that have that issue ? Because i can’t find any solution anywhere, or at least someone who have the same bug…
    PS: Sorry for the approximative use of english language, witch is not my native one.
